Workshop Topics

Stress can have a myriad of effects on our lives from lowering metabolism and increasing cholesterol to contributing to higher rates of divorce and stifling our creativity. In this workshop we will challenge the idea of “managing stress” and learn how radical self-acceptance and mindfulness team up to build resilience – the key to balancing competing priorities and bringing our best selves to our toughest challenges. Combining recent research and our own lived experiences we will address the 3 most challenging stressors for women: perfectionism, comparison, and the pain of uncertainty. Discover how to flourish in the face of adversity and transform the way you live, love and work.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the whole person effects stress has on the mind, body, and emotions.
  • Demonstrate how perfectionism, comparison, and the pain of uncertainty can keep our brains and bodies drowned in stress hormones and leave us feeling disconnected from our own lives.
  • Provide five ways to cultivate resilience through practicing radical self-acceptance and mindfulness.

While the term “happiness” may be subjective, there is an entire body of research which has its finger on the pulse of what actually produces positive results in people’s lives, relationships, and businesses – Positive Psychology – the scientific study of what makes life worth living and individuals flourish. In this workshop we identify the common barriers to happiness such as our tendency to put limits or boundaries on happiness i.e. “When I get that raise- then I will be happy.” Learn what happens when we experience enough positivity to put us past the tipping point where, the research says, we experience an up-ward spiral which allows us greater clarity, better sleep, and to perceive more possibilities than before. We will explore the vital role our thoughts and actions play in happiness and learn three ways you can start cultivating positive emotions in your life today.

Learning Objectives:

  • Provide an introductory lesson on Positive Psychology
  • Debunk common happiness myths
  • Uncover why happiness is so elusive
  • Discover the connection between happiness, the mind, and actions: exploring optimism, and hope
  • 3 Ways to Cultivate Positive Emotions

SafeZone Ally Program was created by Rollins College Center to educate the campus as well as community partners who want to increase knowledge, understanding and compassion in order to be supportive allies of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTIQQ+) people where they live, learn and work. The program focuses on building a community that listens, acts and educates. This is an ideal program for organizations that are intentionally engaged in diversity and inclusion initiatives or simply provide optional training to employees who are willing and interested in becoming an ally.

All participants who complete this workshop and take the Ally Pledge will be provided with a Placard of Recognition that may be displayed in their workspaces to let others know that they are an Ally and their workspace is a SafeZone for LGBTIQQ++ individuals.

Learning Objectives:

  • Breaking the language barrier: learning commonly used terminology and how to navigate conversations to ensure they are inclusive.
  • Leveling the Playing Field: Exploring Privilege
  • Compassion Circle: Exploring the experiences of members of the LGBTIQQ++ community to create a new understanding.
  • What is an Ally?: Discerning the qualities of an ally and what an ally does.
  • Taking the Ally Pledge

Full Workshop: 5 hours

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American from 18 to 65 will spend 91,250 hours working (this does not include overtime, or work from home). This is more time than with their family, or participating in leisure activities; in fact, sleep is the only thing that will surpass work in the average American’s life. With that in mind, consider that the relationships we build at work have more access to us than our partners and children at home. This knowledge makes feeling like we can bring our most genuine selves to work critical to living a healthy and fulfilling life. The truth is feeling like a fraud or impostor in life is more common that we think. In this workshop we will unpack the emotional and physiological aspects of authenticity. Expose the myths about authenticity at work and learn how to capitalize and foster connection. Work environments which support employee authenticity have been shown to have more innovative ideas, stronger teams, and received higher scores on employee job satisfaction.

Learning Objectives:

  • Brief introduction to Positive Psychology
  • Define Authenticity and explore the research which supports it
  • Flourish: The critical roles of self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence on individual authenticity
  • Authentic Communication: Learn to discern your truth and speak it without lying or hurting others

I was very impressed with Kendra’s presentation and hope to work with her again very soon. She presented at one of our newly on boarded resource group’s end of the year meeting to celebrate the group’s success and to further enhance teambuilding. Kendra strikes the perfect balance between professionalism and being approachable. She is very articulate, very polished, her presentation material was tailored to our group, the content was excellent and very well received. She also did a wonderful mix of presenting, hands on work, and some “teambuilding” exercises.

She also has a wicked sense of humor, easily holds the room’s attention and has an uncanny knack for getting people to improve the way they work together. The results were immediate and the team members that participated in her workshop last year still talk about it.

I’m currently awaiting budget approval to bring her in for my immediate team (8 people). My boss, the Director of Supply Management (Americas Region) is reviewing options to bring her in for a larger session with his entire team (50+ people). I highly recommend Kendra – have fun!
